Transforming Emergency Care in Karnataka Through Simulation Education

The 3rd Annual state level Emergency Medicine Karnataka Conference was held at Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Center from 21st September 2023 to 24th September 2023. 

The four-day event, themed “RACE – Research, Advances, Critical thinking, Education,” brought together a confluence of top emergency physicians, practitioners, educators, and residents. Through thematic scientific sessions, panel discussions, and hands-on simulation workshops held at Vydehi Advanced Simulation Academy (VASA), the conference served as a dynamic platform for the exchange of knowledge, skill development, and networking.

Imagine stepping into a hyper-realistic emergency scenario, your heart pounding as you battle against the clock to save a life. At VASA, this isn’t just a simulation; it’s your training ground.

The EM Karnataka workshops at VASA offered a unique opportunity to:

  • Master airway management: Participants gained in-depth knowledge through the practical skills shown at workshops in handling challenging airway scenarios.
  • Conquer Resuscitology: Advanced techniques for resuscitating critically ill patients and improving their chances of survival left an indelible mark on the participants. 
  • Explore emerging areas: All the latest research and protocols in emergency medicine were on display during the workshops to help the healthcare professionals stay one step ahead of the situation. 
  • Sharpen your critical thinking: The participants also learned about the important decision-making skills under pressure ensuring that they were well prepared in advance for the unexpected. 

The conference was graced by the presence of the Minister of Health and Family Welfare of Government of Karnataka, Shri Gundu Rao. He made an exclusive visit to the VASA facility was all praise for the training mannequins, the equipments and all-inclusive and exhaustive number of workshops organized to prepare the healthcare professionals for every situation in every manner. Minister Rao’s words resonate deeply at VASA: “We need to upscale doctors and upgrade departments, creating better learning opportunities through discussion and research.”

The event received distinguished guests, including Dr. S. Kantha, former Adviser of VIMS&RC, and Mrs. D A Kalpaja, Chairperson of VIMS&RC, Dr. Mahesh B. Kottapalli, current Adviser of VIMS&RC alongwith several dignitories of International standing and repute. Their presence added prestige and expertise to the discussions, highlighting the commitment of healthcare professionals and institutions in Karnataka to provide world-class emergency medical services.

The Vydehi Advanced Simulation Academy, the first fully equipped center of its kind in Asia, has played a pivotal role in providing valuable resources for training and skill development.
